Client background
The Teatro Real is Spain’s leading opera house, which showcases leading voices and state-of-the art productions. Part of their strategy was to go mobile as an additional channel to reach out to more users, so they need to improve their app’s functionality and usability.
The goals were to:
- Improve ease of use across all device types, specially mobiles.
- Resolve properly on mobile the task of seat selection, with the drawback of the amount of information required onto a small screen.
- Bring a better overview of the spectacles offer
The Process
After analyzing the current process and understanding their pain points, I built a wireframe prototype and asked some people to use it. After a few interviews, it was clear that this was an improvement over the current experience. After testing my prototype, I started working on the visual part of this web app, creating high fidelity wireframes with functional specifications for the development team. I put in mind all my findings and testing results to create a light and clean UI that will not distract users from their goals.
The Outcome
The user experience was improved by its intuitive and simplified interface, that takes into account different user scenarios.
I paid attention on three key aspects:
- The spectacle categories were simplified and their icons redesigned
- Better display of what is currently on sale that makes easy to stay up-to-date on the tickets you want
- “My List” feature that lets you create a list of shows you want to see and turn on notifications so we can let you know when tickets are available
The final result is a a lean, clean website that runs perfectly on smartphone browsers. It has the look and feel of an app with the ability to make dynamic changes.
